The international language seminar starts tomorrow, the recovery of Albanian language is requested

Tomorrow (Monday) the International Seminar on Albanian Language, Literature and Culture starts, which is organized for students and researchers who deal with problems of Albanian language, literature and culture, but also with Albanianology in general. The director of the seminar, Bardh Rugova, tells KosovaPress that the 41st edition in a row has gathered around 250 participants.

According to him, the interest of foreigners to participate this year was even greater, but due to budgetary impossibility, they asked for understanding from a part of those interested.

He also talks about the state’s lack of interest in investing in Albanian departments in world universities. Whereas he emphasizes that “immigrants are turning into semi-Albanian speakers”.

Academician Rugova emphasizes the need for this seminar to have a separate budget line, and not, as is happening, to not know the amount of the budget until the last week which activities can be held or not.

While the last technical preparations for the seminar are being made, the university professor says that for financial reasons it is not known until the end if they will be able to be realized.

He has raised concerns about the “dying language”.

The director of the International Seminar on Albanian Language, Literature and Culture also criticizes the lack of interest of the state in the last 20 years for learning Albanian in the world.

According to Professor Rugova, the “danger for Albanian” is divided into different spheres.

Academician Rugova says that there was a need to seriously work on a dictionary of the Albanian language.

The 41st edition of the International Seminar on Albanian Language, Literature and Culture will be held from August 14 to 25, 2023. The main topics for the scientific sessions are: “Albania in danger” and “Albanian literature and interculturalism”. Within this edition, in addition to other activities, nine scientific lectures will be held.
