TIRANA, June 10 /ATA/ – The power output generated by the privately-held power plants, plants operated under concession and photovoltaic parks exceeded the amount of electricity produced by the public hydropower plants in the first quarter of 2024, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics, INSTAT.

INSTAT data showed that Albania’s public hydropower stations generated a total of  1162 GWh of electricity in the first quarter of 2024, down by 28.1% from 1614 GWh of electricity produced during the same period of the previous year.

The privately-held power plants and plants operated under concession in Albania produced 1246 GWh of electricity up from 1156 GWh during the same period of 2023, marking an increase by 7.8 %.

The electricity generated by the photovoltaic parks is estimated at 70,140 MWh, significantly up from 16,515 MWh during same period of 2023.

According to INSTAT, the combined net electricity production during the reviewed period amounted to 2.478 GWh, down from 2.787 GWh produced in the first quarter of 2023, with the public HPPs accounting for 46.9%, the privately-held HPPs accounting for 50.3 % and the photovoltaic parks representing 2.8% of the net energy production.
