Berat, a tourist destination even in winter, Merdani for ATA: Around 40 thousand in two months

TIRANA, February 23/ATA/ Berat, with its unique history and architecture, attracts a large number of domestic and foreign visitors.

Director of Tourism and Activities Department Silvi Merdani told ATA that tourists into the city of a thousand windows have filled its streets even in winter.

“From January up to now, there have been 35-40 thousand domestic and foreign visitors. In the coming months, as the weather gets warm, we expect a higher influx of tourists,” Merdani emphasized.

Merdani also said that, “The number of visitors during January to the “Onufri” Iconographic Museum increased by 30% compared to January 2024.”

“The majority of tourists come from various European countries such as Italy, Germany, Poland, Spain, France, etc.,” Merdani said.

Among the most visited attractions, Merdani mentions the Castle, the museum neighborhoods of “Gorica” ​​and “Mangalem”, while the most visited spots are the Osumi Canyons, the city’s wineries, the Onufri, Ethnographic museums, etc.

“The municipality has planned to organize various activities, which were numerous last year and also influenced the increase in the flow of visitors”, said Merdani.

During 2024, Berat had more than 1 million tourists.

Berat was officially declared a museum city in 1961 and it consists of the museum area, the protected area and a free area.

Today, Berat inherits 210 museum objects, of which 150 are standing objects. Of these, 60 are first-class monuments and the rest are second-class.
