Three paintings by classic artist Nicolae Grigorescu – ‘On the Bank of Campinita’, ‘Houses in Campina’ and ‘Oxen Cart Convoy at Sunset’ – each sold for tens of thousands of euros at the “Top 100 Greatest Romanian Artists” auction organized on Thursday evening by Artmark.
According to the results published by Artmark, ‘On the Bank of Campinita’ fetched 82,000 euros, ‘Houses in Campina’ went under the hammer for 80,000 euros, and ‘Oxen Cart Convoy at Sunset’ auctioned off for 65,000 euros.
Two works signed by Nicolae Tonitza were also among the highest-grossing items. ‘Mangalia Inner Courtyard’ sold for 37,500 euros, and ‘View of the Mediterranean’ made 35,000 euros.
Other paintings sold off at this session were: ‘The Artist’s Daughter’ by Ion Tuculescu, and ‘Evening in the Garden’ by Horia Bernea, that each made 28,000 euros; ‘Innocence’ by Stefan Luchian – 26,000 euros; ‘Time and Space’ by Sabin Balasa – 22,000 euros; ‘Odalisque’ by Francisc Sirato – 20,000 euros; ‘The Coat Mender’ by Octav Bancila – 19,000 euros; ‘Reclining Nude’ by Iosif Iser – 15,000 euros; ‘Venice’ (‘Chiesa di San Marcuola’) by Gheorghe Petrascu – 17,000 euros; ‘Sunflower’ by Arthur Segal – 13,000 euros; ‘Transylvanian Village’ by Camil Ressu – 11,000 euros.
