Ali Obaid Al Dhaheri: There are excellent opportunities for growth in Greece-UAE economic cooperation

The relationship between the United Arab Emirates and Greece is characterised by strength and depth, highlighted by the important milestones that have been achieved in recent years, the Emirati ambassador Dr. Ali Obaid Al Dhaheri said in an interview with the Athens-Macedonian News Agency.

In fact, Dr. Ali Obaid Al Dhaheri, who recently submitted his credentials as the new UAE ambassador to Greece, pointed out that in 2020, the visit by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to Abu Dhabi marked the upgrading of bilateral relations through the signing of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Reflecting on bilateral relations through the lens of the Joint Declaration of Strategic Partnership, the UAE Ambassador to Greece referred to the bilateral ties in political and defence cooperation and emphasised the prospects of the two countries’ economic relations. In particular, he spoke of “excellent opportunities for growth in our economic cooperation” and expressed his commitment to expand this so that it better reflects the enormous potential of the bilateral partnership.

“The ambition of the UAE is to promote closer ties between businesses from both countries, with the aim of further strengthening bilateral economic relations,” he stated.

He also envisaged significant opportunities for further development and mutually beneficial cooperation in the fields of energy, food security, science, innovation and technology, space exploration, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, education, logistics, shipping and port infrastructure, noting that they are gaining ever greater importance in the geopolitical landscape.

He further stressed the importance of Greek-Emirati cooperation in the context of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), which was signed last February. He estimated that it could create unprecedented opportunities for the two countries by entering new markets.

Finally, regarding the situation in the Middle East, he stressed that the UAE is committed to working with all relevant international parties to ensure the rapid and effective delivery of humanitarian aid to the most vulnerable civilians in Gaza.
