Syros, the capital of the islands of Cyclades, continues to invest strongly in its international promotion, putting in the spotlight of the Italian market a destination that combines history, culture, architecture and authentic hospitality.
According to a statement, through a targeted familiarisation trip organised by the Municipality of Syros-Ermoupolis in cooperation with CK Strategies, leading Italian journalists and representatives of international media outlets had the opportunity to experience first-hand the character of an island that stands out not only in the Cyclades but across the Mediterranean as a whole.
What impressed participants most was Syros’s unique “ dual personality”. On the one hand, there is imposing Ermoupolis, with its neoclassical mansions, marble-paved streets, historic Town Hall, Apollo Theatre and rich maritime and industrial heritage. On the other, there is the island’s authentic Cycladic side, with Ano Syros, its traditional settlements, quiet beaches, gastronomy and a way of life that has preserved its character unchanged.
It is no coincidence that many of the Italian journalists described Ermoupolis as a city more reminiscent of historic Italian ports such as Genoa and Trieste than a conventional island destination. Its distinctive architecture, cultural influence and atmosphere of another era create an experience rarely found elsewhere in the Aegean.
The prestige of the delegation was particularly high, with representatives and contributors from leading international media outlets including Condé Nast Traveler, Vogue Italia, Corriere della Sera, Forbes, Travel + Leisure, National Geographic, RAI TV, L’Officiel and L’Agenzia di Viaggi. These are media brands that shape international travel trends and reach millions of readers and viewers, creating significant opportunities to promote Syros through features, travel reports and television productions.
In a statement, Deputy Mayor for Tourism Yiannis Voutsinos stressed that the visit represented another important step in the municipality’s strategy of international outreach. As he noted, the aim is to further establish Syros as a destination for culture, authentic experiences and high-quality hospitality, attracting visitors throughout the year.
He also announced that further visits by journalists and content creators would follow, enabling an increasing number of leading international media outlets to discover the unique history and distinctive identity of the “ aristocratic lady of the Cyclades”.
