Wildfire season begins, HŠ  launches awareness campaign

ZAGREB, 2 June (Hina) – The Hrvatske Šume (HŠ) forest management company has launched a public campaign to highlight the important role individuals play in preventing forest fires, noting that 220 surveillance cameras have been deployed in forest areas.

The wildfire season has officially begun and will last until the end of September, the company announced on Monday.

With its campaign, titled “It’ll Be Fine – Negligence Is the First Spark”, the HŠ aims to raise awareness among citizens and both domestic and foreign tourists about their responsibility in protecting forests, the environment, and lives. The campaign is being carried out again this year in cooperation with the Croatian Firefighting Association.

As part of the campaign, educational content will be shared through digital channels. Starting in mid-June, followers on Facebook and Instagram will be able to participate in prize contests promoting responsible behaviour in nature. In addition, TV and radio spots are being prepared in both Croatian and English.

220 cameras installed at 110 forest locations

The HŠ works year-round to protect forests from fires. Among the tools it uses are integrated video surveillance systems with smoke and fire detection, as well as fire spread simulation software. A total of 220 cameras are currently in place across 110 locations, monitored from operational centres in all coastal counties, as well as in Lika-Senj, Karlovac, and Vukovar-Srijem counties.

During the fire season, operational activities are intensified, and the forest lookout and reporting service is further reinforced in karst regions to minimise the time needed to respond to potential fires.

All fire prevention activities and campaign materials related to the HŠ  campaign can be found on the official HЕ  website and on social media platforms – Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
