UMFST Targu Mures to host first international Teqball competition between universities
Based on a collaboration agreement signed between the ‘George Emil Palade’ University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science and Technology in Targu Mures and the Romanian Teqball Federation, the goal is to promote Teqball and Teqvoly within the university environment. As part of the UMFST 80 events, an international Teqball competition between universities will be held for the first time in the world this year, in Targu Mures.
‘Following the cooperation agreement signed by me, on behalf of the Romanian Teqball Federation, with the Ministry of Sports and the Ministry of Education, I found an extraordinary supporter in Rector Professor Dr. Leonard Azamfirei. UMFST Targu Mures is the first academic institution where we have had joint activities for three years aimed at developing Teqball within the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport. Since last year, Teqball has been included in the curriculum as a study subject within the Faculty of Sports (three years of study), as well as in the master’s programme at UMFST Targu Mures. Both Teqball and Teqvoly (two years of study) have been included. Moreover, this anniversary year, during UMFST Targu Mures’s 80th anniversary of academic excellence, in the second week of October, we want to organise, for the first time in the world, an international competition between universities,’ President of the Romanian Teqball Federation Teodor Luca told AGERPRES on Monday.
The ‘George Emil Palade’ University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science and Technology in Targu Mures and the Romanian Teqball Federation officially announced on Monday the formalisation of their collaboration through the signing of a framework agreement aimed at promoting the sports Teqball and Teqvoly within the university environment and providing mutual support in organising sports competitions and events to stimulate young people’s interest in emerging sports.
‘The collaboration agreement follows previous efforts, in which, at the proposal of the specialised Federation, G.E. Palade UMFST of Targu Mures was the first university in Romania to introduce Teqball as an optional subject for students in the Physical Education and Sports programme. The partnership lays the foundations for long-term cooperation that provides the necessary framework for expanding opportunities for practicing this sport in the university environment and reaffirms both institutions’ commitment to promoting an innovative, dynamic, and accessible sport for all, opening new horizons,’ UMFST Targu Mures informs in a press release.
Combining the tradition of 80 years of academic excellence with openness to adopting innovative trends, including through sport, G.E. Palade UMFST of Targu Mures offers a modern educational environment that values the spirit of competition and promotes an active and healthy lifestyle in the local community.
‘The Romanian Teqball Federation marks an essential stage in the development of this sport at national and international levels, contributing to the formation of future generations of athletes and coaches,’ added UMFST Targu Mures.
