The Maria Callas Museum a candidate for an EMYA Award

The Maria Callas Museum of the Municipality of Athens has been included in a list of nominations for the European Museum of the Year Award (EMYA) 2025, according to an announcement on Thursday. A total of 41 museums from all over Europe have been nominated, while the grand winner will be announced in May 2025 at the Sybir Memorial Museum in Białystok, Poland.

After only one year of operation, the Maria Callas Museum has already managed to stand out as a candidate in the EMYA 2025, proving its potential as a modern cultural organisation with an international orientation. As the museum’s announcement adds, this award, together with the individual awards in special categories, constitute the highest European distinction. The organised and objective assessment process ensures recognition of professional excellence, innovation and creativity, despite the wide differences between museum types, scales and funding sources.

The EMYA Awards recognise museums that push the boundaries of traditional storytelling, promoting standards of excellence, sustainability and social responsibility. They assess museums’ contribution to society, their connection to communities, their ability to inspire through creativity and their commitment to sustainability, dialogue and inclusion.

According to the same announcement, with more than 38,000 visitors from more than 50 countries within its first year of operation, the museum has already established itself as a point of reference for opera, music and culture lovers worldwide.
