The construction of a bridge over the Tara River between BiH and Montenegro to begin in 2024

The Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Edin Forto, announced today in Sarajevo that Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro will start construction of an interstate bridge over the Tara River in Šćepan polje in 2024.

After the meeting with the Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs of Montenegro Filip Radulović, Forto stated that Bosnia and Herzegovina is ready to support the Montenegrin initiative on the Adriatic-Ionian motorway, as well as the construction of a road from Montenegro to Bosnia and Herzegovina via Pljevlja towards Čajniče and Goražde.

“We will continue our cooperation and already next week in Skopje we will continue working meetings with the European Commission, which will be followed by a return visit to Podgorica,” said Forto.

Radulović pointed out that the construction of the bridge on the Tara River will solve the decades-long infrastructure problem in the area and added that the construction of the Adriatic-Ionian motorway would contribute to greater economic growth in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.

He explained that the expressway from Pljevlja to Goražde would open the way from Sarajevo to the Bar – Boljare motorway, and he thanked Minister Forto for his good cooperation and invited him to an official visit to Montenegro.

The head of the World Bank Office for Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, Christopher Sheldon, announced that the institution, together with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, will financially support the infrastructural connection of the two countries.

Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina and the EU Special Representative, Ambassador Johann Sattler, underlined that the eu will also support the connection of the two countries, for which there is a great need due to the poor state of the existing infrastructure.

The Minister of Transport and Communications of the RS entity Nedeljko Čubrilović welcomed the agreed projects and announced support for their implementation.
