Romania’s rowing team, received at Otopeni airport’s Official Salon on return from Belgrade World Championships

The Romanian rowing team, which managed to qualify 11 crews for the 2024 Olympic Games, was received, on Monday, at the Official Hall of the Henri Coanda Otopeni Int’l Airport, by the management of the National Sports Agency and the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee, upon their return from the World Championships in Belgrade (September 3-10), where Romanian rowers won five medals: two gold, one silver and two bronze.

The president of the National Sports Agency, Elisabeta Lipa, declared that for Romanian sport, rowing represents a model to follow, bearing in mind that it managed to qualify 11 crews for the Olympic Games in Paris.

“We are very tired, but also very happy. I experienced the most intense edition of the World Championships in my life so far with these extraordinary athletes. Romania was the only country that doubled the number of athletes at these World Championships. We had a goal for which we worked, and now we can say that we have 11 crews qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris. We are in the first place in the world with 11 qualified boats, we left the Netherlands, England, the USA, Canada or Australia behind,” said Lipa.

For his part, the president of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee, Mihai Covaliu, said that he hopes that the rowing athletes will return from next year’s Olympics with at least as many medals as they got at these World Championships.

Romania ended the World Championships in Belgrade with five medals: two gold, one silver and two bronze, ahead of the Netherlands (6-3-0), Great Britain (6-1-2) and Italy (3 -4-1).
