Religious communities receive EUR 3.7 million in three years

Podgorica, (MINA) – The government paid at least EUR 3.74 million to religious communities in the previous three years for various purposes, often without informing the public, as shown by the data obtained by the Center for Civic Education (CGO).

According to CGO, Ministry of Education paid the most money, totaling EUR 2.2 million, to religious communities through the financing of two secondary religious schools – Madrasah Mehmed Fatih and Gymnasium Sveti Sava.

The Ministry of Justice, following various requests from religious communities, paid out EUR 1.05 million, while the Ministry of Culture has paid EUR 495,000 over the last three years.

They emphasized that, according to the available data, the Serbian Orthodox Church received the most financial allocations, totaling EUR 2,088,330, or 55.72 per cent, while a total of EUR 1.46 million, or 39.11 per cent, was paid to the Islamic Community.

The CGO stated that these are not the final total amounts allocated to religious communities in the period from 2021 to 2023, because some of the data were not submitted in full by certain ministries.
