Multimedia exhibition “Balnea Daciae. The Roman Baths of Dacia” opens in Pompeii Archaeological Park
The multimedia exhibition “Balnea Daciae. The Roman Baths of Dacia”, which explores the deep cultural links connecting the Roman world with the province of Dacia, opened on July 6 in the men’s section of the Forum Baths at the Pompeii archaeological site in Italy.
Curated by archaeologist Ovidiu Tentea, the exhibition centres on public bath complexes conceived not only as spaces for bodily care, but as true hubs of social life in that era, the Romanian Embassy in Italy said in a statement on Facebook.
In these facilities, architecture, technological innovation and daily habits blended to shape a shared cultural identity, examples of which – counting among the best preserved – can still be admired today in Pompeii.
Using exclusively multimedia supports, the archaeological research and digital reconstructions presented in the exhibition illustrate, in an iconic setting such as the Forum Baths, how thermal culture acted as a social binder for Roman communities, reconstructing the circulation of ideas and lifestyles in a province located more than a thousand kilometres from Rome.
The scientific project brings together results from research carried out under the Cultech program coordinated by the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca and benefits from cooperation with the Valcea County Museum and the Prahova County Museum of History and Archaeology, highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary partnerships in showcasing historical heritage.
The multimedia exhibition will be open daily until September 30, from 9:00 to 19:00 (last entry at 17:30). Access is included in the Pompeii Archaeological Park admission ticket.
Promoted by the Romanian Embassy in Italy in cooperation with the National Museum of Romanian History and the Pompeii Archaeological Park, the exhibition is part of the broader Romania – Italy Cultural Year 2026 program unfolding under the High Patronage of Romanian President Nicusor Dan and Italian President Sergio Mattarella, and organised with support from Romania’s Culture and Foreign Affairs Ministries.
