Over 950 participants from the 27 European Union member states, as well as from Switzerland, Norway, the UK and Ukraine, took part in the Cyber Europe 2026 international exercise, the National Cyber Security Directorate (DNSC) announced in a press release.

The event, organised by the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) and coordinated at national level by the DNSC, aimed to test cyber incident response capabilities at European level.

The 2026 edition simulated a series of major cyberattacks across the EU, in the transport sector, with a focus on rail and maritime transport.

According to the quoted source, at European level, Cyber Europe 2026 brought together over 950 players from the 27 EU member states, as well as from Switzerland, Norway, the United Kingdom and Ukraine.

“The participation in Cyber Europe 2026 provided the opportunity to test response procedures, information-sharing mechanisms and the capacity for cooperation between institutions and organisations, in a context simulating complex cyber incidents with cross-border impact. Within the exercise, the DNSC plays a dual role. On the one hand, the institution contributed to the planning and coordination of activities carried out at national level, working with participating authorities and organisations to prepare scenarios and cooperation mechanisms. On the other hand, the DNSC specialists participated actively in the exercise as players, becoming involved in managing and resolving simulated cyberattack scenarios. Exercises of this type contribute to strengthening cyber resilience and developing the operational capabilities needed to prevent, detect and effectively manage cyber threats, by enhancing cooperation between relevant actors at national and European level,” the release mentioned.

In this context, through its involvement in both the planning process and the actual conduct of the exercise, the DNSC reaffirms its commitment to strengthening cybersecurity and developing a safer and more resilient digital ecosystem.
