20,000 fewer work permits for foreign workers this year, says interior minister

ZAGREB, 15 Sept (Hina) – Interior Minister Davor Božinović said on Monday the government and economy’s achievements would not have been possible without foreign workers, noting that 20,000 fewer work permits had been issued this year compared with last year, while 33,000 more workers were registered for pension insurance.

“We see that this was a grey area that we are successfully addressing. In March, we adopted amendments to the law, and with very clear measures we are bringing order to the system. We constantly balance the actual needs of the economy with concerns about security, and soon we will introduce further legal amendments to resolve certain issues, such as learning Croatian, regulating accommodation, and the stay of foreign workers,” Božinović said during parliamentary Question Time.
