Montenegro and Italy to cooperate in fight against mafia

Podgorica, (MINA) – Montenegro and Italy will cooperate in the fight against mafia, Montenegrin Justice Minister Andrej Milovic and Italian National Anti-Mafia and Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor Giovanni Melillo agreed during the Wednesday meeting.

According to the press release from the Justice Ministry, during the meeting in Rome, Milovic reiterated that he put forward the initiative for signing of the memorandum on cooperation between the judicial institutions of Montenegro and Italy.

According to the press release, this memorandum would allow for direct and efficient cooperation between the judicial institutions, without mediation of the foreign ministries and other diplomatic procedures, which would shortened the communication path and increase the efficiency in the work of the instiutions of the two countries.

Milovic said that the Justice Ministry will gladly serve as an intermediary between the Italian National Anti-Mafia and Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor and the Montenegrin Special Public Prosecutor.

“They agreed that Melillo and Chief Special Prosecutor Vladimir Novovic should meet as soon as possible and start cooperation”, the press release adds.

Melillo said that the Italian National Anti-Mafia and Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor will support Montenegro unreservedly in the fight ahead of it.

He, according to the press release, supported the formation of the special court in Montenegro, adding that he completely understands the idea and the needs of Montenegro.
