UNCTAD report: Record USD 12.86 bln in foreign direct investments in Greece in 2025

The inflow of foreign capital into Greece reached a record high in 2025, with the country attracting more foreign direct investment (FDI) compared to Türkiye and to all Balkan countries combined, according to a UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) report.

In the “World Investment Report 2026: International investment in a turbulent era” released on 7 July, investment inflows into Greece totalled 12.86 billion US dollars in 2025. This was more than double the figure recorded in 2019 (5 billion US dollars) and nearly ten times the inflows of 2015 (1.27 billion US dollars). At the same time, the cumulative stock of foreign investment in Greece exceeded 100 billion US dollars in 2025, nearly double the 51.8 billion US dollars recorded in 2020.

The upward trend has continued into 2026. According to Bank of Greece data, investment inflows in the first quarter of 2026 totaled 4.4 billion euros, showing resilience despite the uncertainty caused by the crisis in the Middle East.

As government officials underlined, UNCTAD figures confirm “Greece’s leap as an investment destination and its strengthened role in the wider region.” This inflow has contributed to the creation of high-quality jobs, and provided incentives for Greeks living abroad to return, they added. The same sources noted that foreign investment interest has expanded beyond the construction and real estate sectors, extending to energy, healthcare, and mergers and acquisitions, resulting in strong company groups. “It is yet another measurable proof that Greece’s productive model is changing, even if gradually, and this has a positive spill-over effect at many levels,” said a source with expertise in the government’s economic planning.
