Man arrested over foiled attempt on Pope Francis’s life

ATurkish man belonging to that country’s branch of the Islamic State (ISIS) militants has been arrested on suspicion of taking part in a plan to assassinate late Pope Francis in 2024, Italian police said Friday.

The man Hasan Uzun, 46, was arrested as part of an investigation into a plot to kill Francis during his visit to Trieste in July 2024.

He is being held in solitary confinement in the northeastern Italian port city bordering Slovenia.

According to investigations, the attack was planned by a Turkish organization linked to ISIS Khorasan.

After his extradition from the Netherlands, Uzun spent several days in prison in Milan.
