The role Thessaloniki can play not only regionally but also internationally is highlighted by the International Organization for Migration (IOM)’s decision to locate its international logistics management centre in the city, covering Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, as emphasised by National Economy and Finance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis during a special government event on projects in Thessaloniki and Northern Greece on Thursday.
Minister Pierrakakis cited the IOM decision as an example of the significant transformations taking place in Thessaloniki, stating that “in the course of changing Greece’s productive model, Thessaloniki is evolving and taking a leading role.”
He added that the city is undergoing “a major qualitative transformation”, driven by substantial technological investments from companies such as Pfizer, the development of the fourth-generation technology park Thess INTEC, government programs supporting infrastructure funded through increases in the Public Investment Program, and the 5 billion euros allocated to Northern Greece through the 2021-2027 NSRF. “The North is at the center of our compass; this is true convergence,” he concluded.
