Greece was named the best “ Short-Haul Destination of the Year” in the annual Reader Awards handed out by Food and Travel Magazine in London on October 20, 2025, the Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO) announced on Monday.
According to the GNTO, this distinction represents an important recognition of Greece as a tourist destination – particularly for the British market, which seeks a combination of gastronomy, culture, and affordable travel within a short distance.
Food & Travel Magazine has a strong presence both in the United Kingdom and internationally, as a leading publication focused on travel, gastronomy, wine, and experiential tourism. According to the magazine’s data, it reaches 31,000 readers in the UK, mainly professionals aged 26-54 with high income and a strong interest in travel and culinary experiences.
The award is of particular importance for British tourism to Greece, since the magazine’s audience consists of opinion leaders and decision-makers in travel choices. The British market remains a strategically vital segment for the Greek tourism industry, and strengthening Greece’s recognition as a gastronomic and travel destination for British travellers contributes to increased demand and higher-quality tourism experiences.
The award was received by Eleni Skarveli, Head of the GNTO Office for the United Kingdom and Ireland.
