Gërvalla: In addition to money, we also need the experience of our compatriots

Diaspora can bring something more important than finance to Kosovo and its relevance is indisputable. This was said in the organization of the second day of the “Ulpiana” International Forum, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora.

The Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Donika Gërvalla expressed her happiness that the Government of Kosovo and the institutions have expressed great willingness to make the diaspora one of the main priorities of this mandate. She added that ‘in addition to money, we also need their experience’. As she highlighted the fact that the diaspora brings over 1 billion euros to Kosovo every year.

She added that important steps have been taken to enable the diaspora to vote for Kosovo, not only through the post office, but also through embassies and consulates.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia, Bujar Osmani, said that the importance of the diaspora is indisputable. He added that as a multi-democratic state they have included the diaspora in the population registration process, while emphasizing that around 258,000 people have been registered as members of the diaspora.

Osmani said that from his experience as a minister, he has come to the conclusion that the only way to stop the trend of increasing people’s migration is to ‘join the European Union’.

He added that in order to create better opportunities for the diaspora, a law should be created for them and there should be a comprehensive legal framework.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Liza Gashi, said that understanding the needs of the diaspora is important for every country.

The “Ulpiana” Forum, as one of the most important international events in the country, aims to advance relations between governments and policies through diaspora engagement and international development.

The forum will last until tomorrow (Saturday), where there will be various activities.
