ZAGREB, 6 Nov (Hina) – A 62-year-old Croatian citizen extradited from France, sought by Croatia on suspicion of committing a war crime against prisoners of war, was handed over to a prison in Osijek on Tuesday, Vukovar-Srijem County police said on Wednesday.
The police said that in 2021 and 2022, they filed criminal charges with the Osijek County State Attorney’s Office against him, on suspicion that in early October 1991, together with other suspects, he committed war crimes against captured members of the Croatian army and police in the towns of Cerić and Mirkovci.
Based on a European Arrest Warrant issued by the Osijek County State Attorney’s Office, the 62-year-old was detained on 5 October at the Calais border crossing in France while entering from the United Kingdom.
