Montenegro among the countries with very high human development index

Podgorica, (MINA) – For the eighth consecutive year, Montenegro has retained its status as a country with a very high level of human development, according to the latest report by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

The UNDP Office in Montenegro announced that, with a Human Development Index (HDI) of 0.862, Montenegro ranks 48th out of 193 countries and territories.

The UNDP stated that, in the period between 2003 and 2023, the HDI value in Montenegro increased from 0.764 to 0.862, which represents an improvement of 12.8 percent.

According to the latest Human Development Report, life expectancy in Montenegro has increased by 2.9 years, reaching 77 years.

“During this period, the expected years of schooling for children increased by three years to 15.5 years, while the average number of years of education for adults, aged 25 and over, increased by 2.3 years, reaching 12.8 years”, UNDP stated.

It is stated that the gross national income per capita increased by about 74 percent during the observed period.

UNDP Resident Representative in Montenegro Ekaterina Paniklova pointed out that Montenegro continues to advance on the HDI scale, making steady progress through a just transition and digital transformation, on its path to green development and EU membership.
