DZS: Fewer cattle and pigs slaughtered in 2025, poultry production on rise
ZAGREB, 24 June (Hina) -According to data on total livestock slaughter in abattoirs, the number of cattle slaughtered in 2025 was 5.3% lower than in the previous year, the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS) reported.
The figures, based on data provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, also show that the number of pigs slaughtered in abattoirs fell by around 6,120 head, a decrease of 0.5% compared with the previous year.
The number of sheep slaughtered declined by 30.1%, or around 46,400 head, while poultry slaughter increased by 10% year-on-year.
Despite the fall in pig slaughter numbers, pork production in abattoirs increased by around 800 tonnes, or 1%, in 2025.
Poultry meat production rose by approximately 9,400 tonnes, an increase of 12.1% compared with the previous year.
