The original sketch of the Endless Column, created by sculptor Constantin Brancusi and regarded as the birth certificate of his most important work, has been displayed at the European Parliament as part of the exhibition called “The Infinite of Brancusi.”

According to a Targu Jiu City Hall release, at the initiative of European Parliament Vice-President Victor Negrescu, in collaboration with the “Constantin Brancusi” Research, Documentation and Promotion Centre in Targu Jiu, the exhibition “The Infinite of Brancusi” was inaugurated at the European Parliament headquarters in Brussels. The exhibition features documentary photographs from the Georgescu Gorjan archive, as well as photographs by artists Ioana Chirita, Vlad Eftenie, Cristian Caval and Ionel Scaunasu.

“The photographs capture unique moments around the works that make up the ‘Constantin Brancusi’ Monumental Ensemble in Targu Jiu. The centerpiece of the event was the display of the original drawing on which Constantin Brancusi sketched the Endless Column. This emotional moment was made possible by Mihai Andrei Petrisor, a descendant of the family of Stefan Georgescu Gorjan, the engineer who collaborated with Brancusi on the creation of the monument in Targu Jiu. Participants were able to watch the documentary film by Dr Doina Lemny, ‘The Brancusi Ensemble in Targu Jiu’, and had the opportunity to experience the emotion of visiting the works in Targu Jiu through VR headsets. Those attending received postcards featuring the images on display and were encouraged to write messages about what they had seen in the exhibition,” the release said.

The event was also attended, at the invitation of MEP Victor Negrescu, by a number of European and Romanian officials, who delivered messages marking the 150th anniversary of Constantin Brancusi’s birth, the quoted source added.
