Cyprus and Greece have issued separate Navtex notices for underwater surveys for the installation of a fibre-optic cable in areas falling within their respective Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs).
Specifically, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) of the Republic of Cyprus issued a Navtex notice, valid from 2 to 15 November, for geophysical survey operations by the vessel “KOBI RUEGG” for the East to Med Corridor (EMC) cable system, within the EEZ of the Republic of Cyprus.
The EMC corridor concerns a subsea and terrestrial telecommunications and data transmission cable system connecting Asia with Europe via Saudi Arabia and Greece.
Similarly, the Greek authorities issued a Navtex notice for an underwater survey in the south-eastern Cretan Sea ahead of the installation of a fibre-optic cable by the vessel “KOBI RUEGG”, in an area falling within Greece’s EEZ and continental shelf. The Greek Navtex will be in force from 7 to 11 November.
