CGES and EMS sign power infrastructure acquisition agreement

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The Montenegrin Electricity Transmission System (CGES) and the Serbian Transmission System Operator (EMS) have signed an acquisition agreement for the electric power infrastructure, thereby confirming their long-standing cooperation and shared commitment to developing a stable and reliable regional power system.

The agreement was signed by the directors of the two companies, Ivan Asanovic and Jelena Matejic.

“The agreement stipulates the acquisition of parts of 220-kilovolt (kV) and 110 kV interconnection transmission lines owned by EMS, located on the territory of Montenegro, which, in accordance with the agreement reached, will be transferred into the ownership of CGES,” the company stated in a press release.

CGES explained that the reason for such an arrangement stems from the fact that maintaining and operating transmission lines located on the territory of another country is complex and demanding, both from a technical and legal standpoint.

“For this reason, CGES and EMS jointly launched an initiative to find a sustainable solution for the 220 kV interconnection transmission lines Pljevlja–Bajina Basta, 220 kV Pljevlja–Bistrica, and 110 kV Pljevlja 1–Potpec, which are owned by EMS but partially located on the territory of Montenegro, as well as the internal 220 kV line Mojkovac–Pljevlja, which is partially located on the territory of Serbia and operated by CGES,” CGES clarified.

Accordingly, a model was adopted under which each transmission system operator becomes the owner of the transmission lines located within its own country. This principle ensures simpler management, more efficient maintenance, and greater legal and operational clarity in the functioning of the transmission systems.
