Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – By strengthening its independent institutions, Montenegro is continuing reforms that improve oversight of public spending, reinforce fiscal responsibility, and accelerate the country’s path toward European Union membership, Finance Minister Novica Vukovic said, adding that an independent Fiscal Council contributes to stable public finances.

At a meeting with the newly elected members of the Fiscal Council, Aleksandra Popovic, Bratislav Pejakovic, and Jovo Djonovic, Vukovic congratulated them on their appointments and expressed confidence that their expertise, experience, and professional integrity would further strengthen one of the most important institutions in Montenegro’s fiscal system.

“An independent Fiscal Council is not merely a legal obligation, it is a guarantee of responsible management of public funds, stronger oversight of public finances, and proof that Montenegro is firmly implementing reforms on its European path. Its expertise, objectivity, and independence are key prerequisites for preserving fiscal discipline, macroeconomic stability, and the country’s sustainable development,” Vukovic said.

He added that the Ministry of Finance will continue implementing reforms aimed at improving public financial management, strengthening the institutional framework, and increasing transparency and accountability in fiscal policymaking.

“We are building a system in which responsibility, transparency, and sustainability form the foundation of every fiscal decision. This is the best safeguard of the public interest and a strong message to citizens, businesses, investors, and international partners that Montenegro pursues a responsible economic policy and is building institutions that guarantee stable public finances,” Vukovic said.
