The 13th edition of the Bucharest International Experimental Film Festival (BIEFF) will take place from September 26 to October 1.
“There are only a few days left until the official opening of the 13th edition of BIEFF – the first and largest event in Romania dedicated to avant-garde film and visual art. From 26 September to 1 October, cinemas in the capital will host premiere screenings of some of the year’s most daring cinematic experiments, as well as meetings with filmmakers and renowned professionals from the international film industry. The public will have the opportunity to talk to the guests during Q&A sessions scheduled after the screenings, as well as during special panels and debates on the film industry,” the organisers said in a press release sent to AGERPRES on Thursday.
On the second day of the festival, September 27, spectators are invited to meet Portuguese filmmaker Pedro Costa, an emblematic figure of contemporary cinema, whose work continues to break new ground in the digital age of the cinematography. The event will start with a first screening in Romania of the author’s latest short film – As Filhas do Fogo (The Daughters of Fire, 2023), which had its international premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
Founded under the patronage of the National University of Theatre and Film “I.L. Caragiale” and the National University of Arts Bucharest, the Bucharest International Experimental Film Festival is the first event in Romania to promote the border between cinema and the visual arts, showcasing innovative visual artists whose works are often shown in museums and art galleries and only rarely in cinemas.
