Albania took a step closer towards qualification for Euro 2024 after a 2 to 0 win against Poland thanks to goals by Jasir Asani and Mirlind Daku at a decisive game at Tirana’s Air Albania stadium on Sunday evening.
Albania’s Brazilian head coach had picked the following starting line-up: goalkeeper Strakosha; defenders Hysaj, Ismajli, Gjimshiti and Mitaj, midfielders Asllani, Ramadani and Bajrami, and forwards Asani, Uzuni, Cikalleshi.
In the first minutes, a lot of flares where thrown to the pitch by fans and the game was temporarily suspended.
Poland scored in the first half but the goal was disallowed for offside.
Albania took the lead with a long shot by forward Jasir Asani at the 37th minute.
Poles were more aggressive at the start of the second half as they sought to equalize.
Albania scored second goal by Daku at 62nd minute.
Poland had almost no chances to score, and Albania defended very well and had plenty of chances, and were very effective.
Tonight’s game in Tirana was the fifth in the Euro 2024 group stage qualifiers and Albania took the Group E lead with 10 points, followed by Czech Republic with 8 points, Moldova 8 points, Poland rank fourth with 6 points.
