ZAGREB, 6 April (Hina) – At the Zagreb City Zoo on Easter Monday, the animals enjoyed Easter eggs tailored to their diets, while the giant anteaters received a new artificial termite mound designed to stimulate their natural behaviour and activity.
Breakfast was served to brown bears, giant anteaters, a red panda, meerkats, dwarf mongooses, chimpanzees, raccoon dogs, and brown capuchins.
The Easter eggs ranged from fruit and vegetables to insect larvae, while some animals received large papier-mâchéeggs filled with treats.
$We put in each egg what that species particularly enjoys. Most of them responded wonderfully, and those who received breakfast early will enjoy it when they wake up,” said zoo educator Marija Starčević.
A special attraction for the giant anteaters is the new artificial termite mound in their outdoor enclosure. The mound encourages natural foraging behaviour and activity, allowing the anteaters to extract food through tubes, much like they would in the wild.
“Such elements awaken natural instincts in the animals, encourage exploration, and make their daily lives more interesting and challenging,” Starčević emphasised.
