Podgorica, (MINA) – The Democratic People’s Party (DNP) is closer to leaving the Government that staying in it, said the party’s deputy president and Minister of Transport Maja Vukicevic, adding that the DNP will not wait indefinitely for the Government’s response to its proposals.

Speaking as a guest on a TV Vijesti program, she said that, together with another DNP minister, Milun Zogovic, she will put forward party initiatives at the next cabinet session, which is expected to take place next Thursday.

“These issues require dialogue and we have no intention of changing the Constitution or national symbols by force. We just expect part of our election program to be implemented, to see if it is possible through our participation in this government” Vukicevic said, Vijesti online reports.

According to her, the DNP will not wait forever for the Government’s response to its initiatives on identity issues, making Serbian an official language, the tricolor flag and dual citizenship.

Vukicevic remarked that they understand that these issues require broad social consensus, but added that they expect them to be addressed within a certain timeframe, not postponed for the next two years or after the next elections.

She said that in her view the Government is not “bloody”, as party leader Milan Knezevic described it during the protest in Botun, adding that he still stands by his claims that certain elements of the government, primarily the police, are bloody.

Vukicevic dismissed the allegations that identity issues are more important to them than country’s EU path, and even residents of Botun.

She didn’t want to speak about the dialogue on Botun led by Parliament Speaker Andrija Mandic, Prime Minister Milojko Spajic and DNP leader Milan Knezevic, due to which the protests were paused on December 31.
