Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin on Tuesday echoed US President Donald Trump’s call for China to use its leverage with its ally Russia to bring an end to the war in Ukraine.

“I think it will take the great involvement of the whole international community to make it possible to take some steps toward peace,” Parolin told reporters as he visited the branch of the Vatican’s Bambino Gesù children’s hospital in Rome’s San Paolo district when asked about how to achieve a ceasefire on Ukraine.

“And I also think China has a word to say on this.

“Indeed President Trump is currently in China and the Far East in part to touch on this point”.
