TIRANA, Sept 10 /ATA/ The World Press Photo exhibition on display in Skanderbeg Square features the works by a group of photographers from different countries of the world, who showcase not only beautiful images, but also powerful and even outrageous stories. It is this artistic and insightful element that sets this artistic event apart.
Each year, the exhibition travels around the globe to connect millions of visitors to meaningful stories. The photos on display, selected from more than 61,000 photos taken by 3,851 photojournalists from 130 countries, turn the spotlight on some of the most sensitive issues facing the world today.
Currently the exhibition is on display in Eindhoven, Tirana, Tegucigalpa, Vienna, São Paulo, and many others.
It all started in 1955 when a group of Dutch photographers organized an international competition (World Press Photo) to expose their work to a global audience. For six decades, the World Press Photo Foundation has worked from headquarters in Amsterdam as an independent, nonprofit organization. The world has changed constantly, and new developments in media and technology have transformed journalism and storytelling.
The purpose of World Press Photo is to connect the world to the stories that matter.
