Theodorikakos: The shipbuilding industry is a national wager for a productive Greece

Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos visited Skaramangas Shipyards on Tuesday, which has been designated a ‘strategic investment’. Theodorikakos met with Skaramangas Shipyards President George Prokopiou and CEO Miltiadis Varvitsiotis. He was given a tour of the facilities and briefed on the extensive upgrade programme currently underway, aimed at re-establishing the shipyard as a major hub for heavy industry and shipping.

The Greek Minister stressed that the shipbuilding industry is a national wager for a productive Greece.

The focus of the visit was on the investments being made to upgrade the shipyard’s critical infrastructure, equipment, and operational capabilities. In this context, 20 million euros have already been allocated for restoration and modernisation work. Additionally, a 100-million-euro investment programme is underway to fully utilise the facilities in the coming years. Since 2023, 118 ships have been serviced, and the shipyard currently has the capacity to service up to 60 ships of all types per year.Skaramangas Shipyards employs 200 workers on a permanent basis, while during peak periods, total employment, including partner crews and specialised technicians, can reach up to 700 people.
