The Western Balkans countries are committed to security and European integration, it was heard on the first day of the EU- Western Balkans Ministers’ Forum on Internal Affairs.
According to the press release from the Montenegrin Interior Ministry (MUP), the interlocutors discussed combating trans-national organized crime and illegal trade, strengthening migration management, asylum and border control.
Minister of the Interior of Hungary, Sandor Pinter, said at the press conference following the first day of the Forum, that he is pleased that all Forum participants are committed to strengthening the fight against illegal migration.
EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson emphasized that the joint progress can be illustrated with Montenegro’s case, as its results in meeting interim benchmarks in the areas of fundamental rights, judiciary, freedom, democracy, security, and justice are impressive.
She added that this will enable Montenegro to move forward quickly in the accession talks in all other areas.
Montenegrin Interior Minister Danilo Saranovic emphasized that Montenegro is continuously making progress in strengthening its national security system.
Thus, according to him, Montenegro contributes not only to regional stability and security but also to that of the entire European continent.
Saranovic affirmed that Montenegro will work tirelessly, responsibly, and decisively on strengthening the rule of law, which is a key aspect of its EU path.
MUP stated that the fact the Forum is being organized in Montenegro, only a few months after receiving the IBAR and two days after the visit of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, reflects the trust of European partners in Montenegro.
