The bridge with the largest parabolic arch in Romania, which will connect the town of Mioveni to the commune of Davidesti (Arges County), successfully passed the strength test on Wednesday.

‘The experts carried out the mandatory static and dynamic tests for verifying the safety and behavior of the construction before the final handover. The static tests consisted of subjecting the structure to a controlled load, simulating the weight the bridge will bear during its design life, while the dynamic tests monitored the reaction of the bridge to the passage of moving vehicles, in order to analyze vibrations, deformations and stability. Six heavy-duty trucks were used for the testing, each with a maximum load of 20 tons of stone,’ the Mioveni City Hall said in a statement.

The new bridge across the Argesel River will streamline traffic between Mioveni and Davidesti, shorten travel times and increase road safety in the area, and is due to open to traffic in autumn this year.

‘The new construction stands out through a national technical first: it is the bridge with the largest parabolic arch in Romania, spanning the deck diagonally, with asymmetrical support cables and a combined steel-concrete deck. The bridge has a span of 73 meters, is 35.50 meters high and 81.20 meters long in total, and has a width of 13 meters, including two traffic lanes and pedestrian sidewalks on both sides,’ the release also states.

The project is being implemented and financed by the National Investment Company through the ‘National Program for Constructions of Public or Social Interest’.
