The pension reform aims to deliver greater fairness, adequacy and security for every generation, President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides said in a recorded message on Wednesday.

Noting that today, the government has presented the framework for the reform of the pension system to the social partners, he said that this was “the largest and most substantial reform of the pension system since 1980.” The reform, he said, aims to deliver greater fairness, adequacy and security for every generation.

The reform, he said, is “based on two non-negotiable principles” – more dignified pensions today, and a sustainable Social Insurance Fund for tomorrow and provides the greatest support to low-income pensioners and strengthens household disposable income.

“Our message to every pensioner, every worker, every young man and woman is clear: this reform is for you,” the President said.

The pension reform, the President noted, “is yet another important chapter in the major reform programme of our administration, in our great effort to change Cyprus.”
