Relocation of Patriot battery to Souda under consideration, Defence Ministry sources reveal

In light of Iran’s recent threats against European nations (with related information also published by the Financial Times), the Greek Ministry of National Defence is examining several scenarios, including the potential relocation of the Patriot battery currently stationed in Karpathos island to Souda, Crete, should it prove necessary.

At the same time, according to the same sources, the Ministry is also evaluating the possibility of Greek assistance to Bulgaria to bolster its anti-aircraft and anti-ballistic protection through the deployment of the Patriot system, pending a relevant request and approval by the Government Council for National Security (KYSEA).

Furthermore, sources pointed out that for the security of Cyprus, four Hellenic Air Force F-16 fighter jets and the Hellenic Navy frigate “Nikiforos Fokas” remain stationed in the area.
