The progress and strategic importance of the Greece-Egypt electricity interconnection project (GREGY Interconnection) was presented by the Vice President of the Copelouzos Group, Thomas Achimastos, at the “Egypt Energy Show” – EGYPES 2025 conference, which was held in Cairo.
Achimastos spoke of the multiple benefits of the interconnection, both for Greece and Egypt and for the entire European energy market. As he said, by transferring green electricity from Egypt to Europe, the GREGY project will contribute:
To the provision of cheap and green energy from renewable sources, enhancing sustainable development.
To the creation of a new energy route that makes the Eastern Mediterranean a pillar of sustainable development.
To diversifying energy sources and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
To supporting the extroversion and competitiveness of European industry.
“The Greece-Egypt electricity interconnection project -GREGY- is not just another energy investment. It is a strategic initiative that establishes Greece as a bridge between two continents and strengthens Europe’s energy security,” said Thomas Achimastos, highlighting the importance of cooperation with Egypt and the prospect of expanding such projects in the context of the energy transition.
“The Copelouzos Group, a pioneer in the field of energy investments, remains committed to creating strong energy infrastructures that shape the future of sustainable energy in the Eastern Mediterranean and Europe.”
