eputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, who is currently in New York for the UN General Assembly, said Israel must not engage in operations that would put the people in the Global Sumud Flotilla, including some Italian MPs and MEPs, in danger after the boats involved came under attack overnight, the Italian foreign ministry said on Wednesday.
“To ensure their safety, the Italian foreign ministry had already notified the Israeli authorities that any operation entrusted to the Israeli forces in Jerusalem must be conducted in compliance with international law and the principle of absolute caution,” the statement said.
“Minister Tajani has asked the Italian Embassy in Tel Aviv to gather information and reiterate its previous request to the Israeli government to guarantee the absolute protection of the personnel on board”.
