Podgorica, (MINA) – The Government of Montenegro will be with its citizens and provide all necessary assistance to remediate the consequences of the fire and restore what was lost, Prime Minister Milojko Spajic said.

He wrote on the X social network that Montenegro has been struck by severe fires in several locations, which caused great material damage to the citizens and communities.

“Unfortunately, our firefighters have also been injured – those who selflessly and bravely stand on the first line of defense”, Spajic said.

He thanked the firefighters and expressed his deep respect for the sacrifice and courage they show.

Spajic also thanked Montenegro’s friends from Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia, as well as partners from the European Union and NATO, for the swift and selfless assistance reflecting the spirit of regional cooperation and solidarity.

He said that the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Army of Montenegro and all competent services will remain on the ground as long as necessary.

Spajic announced that a meeting of the Rescue and Protection Coordination Team will be held on Tuesday, to analyze the situation and issue guidelines for the most effective response. “I am aware of the weight of the losses our citizens have suffered. The Government of Montenegro will be with you – we will provide all the necessary assistance in order to remedy the consequences and restore what has been lost” said Spajic.
