The Sofia Medical University marked World Health Day on Monday by a ceremony at the Sofia Opera House, presenting its annual scientific research and teaching awards.
“This year, the Sofia Medical University is again the unchallenged leader in all its professional fields in the Bulgarian University Ranking System,” said the University’s Rector, Prof. Boycho Landzhov MD, addressing the awards ceremony.
He noted that in line with current public needs of developing eHealth and telemedicine, talks on the elaboration of new integrated and hybrid curricula have been held with the management of the University of Telecommunications and Post and other higher educational establishments.
“We focus on international partnerships and on participation in initiatives at world and European level,” Prof. Landzhov said.
“Since I took office in January, despite the political, socio-economic and financial crisis, the management of the Sofia Medical University has increased the salaries of the teaching staff and of all University employees. The amount of State scholarships was increased, too, up to the maximum permissible threshold,” the Rector said.
“The Sofia Medial University is highly rated in both European and international rankings,” Vice President Iliana Iotova said in her speech at the ceremony.
“The Sofia Medical University lecturers take credit for this rating, thanks to their knowledge and teaching activity, their research activity, and their desire to get ever better and be on a par with their European and global counterparts,” Iotova pointed out.
At the ceremony, the Sofia Medical University presented its annual awards: AESCULAPIUS (for overall contribution to the development of Bulgarian medicine), PANACEA (for contribution to teaching and research in clinical medicine), and SIGNUM LAUDIS (for special services to the functioning and advancement of the University).
A gala concert took place after the awards ceremony.
