Romfilatelia introduces Paris 2024 philatelic issue into circulation

Romfilatelia is introducing the Paris 2024 philatelic issue into circulation, starting on Friday, on the occasion of the opening of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, informs Romfilatelia in a statement sent to AGERPRES on Thursday.

Consisting of six postage stamps, a lacy package and two “first day” envelopes, the issue reproduces in the images of the postage stamps symbols of seven sport disciplines in which our country has participants.

The postage stamps of the issue illustrate symbolic images of some sport disciplines in which Romania has representatives with high chances of winning medals: gymnastics (nominal value 10 RON), fencing (nominal value 3 RON), athletics events (nominal value 4 RON), kayak – canoeing (nominal value 5 RON), swimming (nominal value 13 RON) and table tennis (nominal value 6 RON).

The postage stamp of the philatelic package (nominal value 33 RON) illustrates an event of rowing – 8 +1 frames.

The two “first day” envelopes present in their graphics the symbolic design of the national imprint reproduced on the T-shirts of Romanian athletes and respectively a chromatic composition in which the graphic symbols of the representative monuments of Paris can be found.

This year’s Olympic event is also an anniversary event: the centenary of the Paris Olympic Games (1924) and of Romania’s first participation in the Olympic competitions, in the same year 1924.

In Paris, our country will participate in the competitions scheduled for 18 sport disciplines with a number of 107 competitors. The bearers of the Romanian flag at the opening ceremony will be rowers Ionela and Marius Cozmiuc.

Romania’s participation in the Olympic Games resulted in over 300 medals, most of them in gymnastics. Participating in 23 editions of the Summer Olympic Games and 22 editions of the Winter Olympic Games, Romania was on the award podiums, obtaining 90 gold, 97 silver and 122 bronze medals.

The first Olympic gold medal was won by Iosif Sarbu in 1952, in Helsinki, at the pistol test. In 1976, Nadia Comaneci obtained the first Olympic 10 in the history of gymnastics in Montreal. Romania’s best ranking in the Olympic competitions was recorded in 1984 in Los Angeles, when it took second place in the nation ranking, after the United States of America, with a total of 53 medals: 20 gold, 16 silver and 17 bronze.
