Romania’s Under-19 men’s team won the gold medals, while the Under-19 women’s team and the Under-15 men’s team took silver on Tuesday at the European Youth Table Tennis Championships in Malmo (Sweden).
In the Under-19 category, Romania (Dragos Bujor, Iulian Chirita, Andrei Istrate, Darius Movileanu) defeated Germany 3-0 in the final. Iulian Chirita defeated Andre Bertelsmeier 3-1 (11-4, 8-11, 11-6, 13-11), Andrei Istrate overcame Wim Verdonschot 3-1 (11-5, 11-5, 2-11, 11-5), and Darius Movileanu won against Lleyton Ullmann 3-0 (11-5, 11-7, 11-4).
In the U19 women’s event, (Bianca Mei-Rosu, Alesia Sferlea, Andrea Teglas, Evelyn Ungvari) lost the U19 women’s final to France 2-3.
Both points for the Romanian team were scored by Bianca Mei-Rosu, 3-2 (12-10, 9-11, 8-11, 14-12, 12-10) against Nina Guo Zheng and 3-2 (3-11, 11-7, 6-11, 12-10, 11-8) against Leana Hochart. Alesia Sferlea lost her match with Leana Hochart 0-3 (7-11, 9-11, 10-12) and the one with Nina Guo Zheng 0-3 (5-11, 4-11, 4-11), while Andrea Teglas lost to Clea De Stoppeleire 0-3 (5-11, 4-11, 9-11).
In the U15 category, Romania (Matei Eparu, Robert Istrate, Mihai Nagy) was defeated in the final by Italy 3-1, the only point having been obtained by Robert Istrate, after 3-1 (11-2, 11-4, 9-11, 11-6) against Francesco Trevisan.
Mihai Nagy lost the duel with Danilo Faso 0-3 (7-11, 9-11, 4-11), who also defeated Robert Istrate 3-0 (11-5, 18-16, 11-3), the pair Robert Istrate/Mihai Nagy having lost the match with Danilo Faso/Francesco Trevisan, 1-3 (5-11, 11-5, 4-11, 9-11).
According to the Romanian Table Tennis Federation, Romania won the most medals, 17, at last year’s edition, including 6 gold medals.
