Ariot broke out at Pisa prison late on Wednesday after several prisoners reportedly discovered bugs in their cells that had been planted there for investigative purposes.
The prisoners took control of an entire wing of the prison for several hours and one of the inmates who had a smuggled-in telephone did a live-stream of what was happening on Tit Tok.
Guards took back control of the whole jail early on Thursday following the intervention of mediators.
Some of the inmates have been arrested and transferred elsewhere, sources said.
Others are also set to transferred because of the damage caused by the riot.
