Milano Cortina Winter Olympics organisers are looking into cases of their medals ‘breaking’, or slipping off their lanyards, sources said Monday.

The suspected defect has hit the winner of the women’s downhill, America’s Breezy Johnson, as well as to the Italian bronze medalist in the parallel giant slalom, Lucia Dalmasso.

“It’s already happened to me twice,” Dalmasso commented, “once under the podium and once on the bed.” Johnson advised everyone not to jump for joy to avert the alleged problem occurring.

“I was jumping out of excitement and it broke.

I’m sure someone will fix it,” she said.

Andrea Francisi, operations manager for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, explained that he is aware of the situation, and the culprit appears to be a

“We’ve seen that some medals have broken, we’ve seen the images, and we’re trying to understand in detail if there’s a problem,” he said.

“We’re obviously paying great attention to the issue, since a medal is the triumph and dream of every athlete.” Other athletes who have complained of problems include cross-country silver medalist Ebba Andersson of Sweden, figure skater Alysa Liu (Team USA), and German biathlon bronze medalist Justus Strelow, who asked on social media: “What’s going on with these medals?”
