ZAGREB, 21 July (Hina) – A violent summer wind, accompanied by heavy rain, hit the area of Rijeka at about 1600 hours Friday, and tore down many trees and toppled a crane in the Brajdica container terminal.
The crane fell beside a vessel anchored in the terminal.
Falling trees damaged cars and electric cables, stopped traffic and wrought havoc on some streets.
The summer storm also reached the capital city of Zagreb and its surroundings at about 1700 hrs.
The building housing the national parliament was slightly damaged, when torrential rain poured into the parliament hall. Therefore, the ongoing urgent session was suspended for about 15 minutes. Later some of MPs decided not to take the floor and withdrew from the discussion.
