Revenue from Overnight Stays in Bulgaria in December 2023 Surpass Results for 2019 Y/Y: Statistics
In December of 2023, the total revenues from nights spent increased by 19.8%, compared to the same month of the previous year and reached BGN 89.7 million, as BGN 62.2 million were from Bulgarian residents and 27.5 million from non-residents, the National Statistical Institute said on Monday.
A reference in the NSI shows that for the same month of the pre-pandemic 2019 the revenues from overnight stays were BGN 52.3 million, or 8.1% more compared to December 2018, with an increase in revenues from both Bulgarian citizens – by 9.8% and foreigners – by 5.6%.
Total bed occupancy in December 2023 was 24.9%, up 0.3 percentage points from a year earlier. Bed occupancy was highest in 4- and 5-star accommodation, at 33.9%, followed by 3-star accommodation, at 24.4%, and 1- and 2-star accommodation, at 14.8%.
The number of overnight stays in December 2023 increased by 4.3% compared to the same month of 2022 and reached 493,000, with an increase of 7.5% for Bulgarian citizens and a decrease of 4.6% for foreign citizens. The number of overnight stays of Bulgarian citizens was 375,800 and they spent on average 1.9 nights. Foreign citizens accounted for 117,200 thousand with an average of 2.3 nights, 76.5% of them stayed in 4- and 5-star accommodation.
