Property registration in the names of both spouses has increased 300-fold in Kosovo
Today, the closing event of the PIAKOS project, titled “From Rights to Action,” was held, presenting the project’s activities and results in the field of property registration.
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti attended the event and said that the registration of property in the names of both spouses had increased 300-fold in less than a decade. He emphasized the importance of property documentation for legal security, family well-being, and dignity, KosovaPress reports.
Our government’s cooperation with the Advocacy and Training Resource Center (ATRC) through the PIAKOS program has truly added value, as it went beyond an awareness campaign and was implemented on the ground with citizens through direct support in 16 municipalities across Kosovo. Special credit goes to the many activists who worked in this field, with women being the main beneficiaries, as they managed to regularize their property documentation, inheritance procedures with notaries, and geodetic services.
In less than a decade, the registration of property in the names of both spouses has increased 300-fold. In 2016, around 100 properties across Kosovo were registered in the names of both spouses in a married couple. Today, that figure stands at around 31,000. This means a 300-fold increase in the number of properties registered in the names of both spouses,” he said.
ATRC Executive Director Kushtrim Kaloshi said that property rights are not just about documents and administrative procedures, but are also linked to family security, economic independence, and equality among citizens.
Meanwhile, PIAKOS Project Manager at ATRC, Odeta Noks, said that more than 7,000 families in Kosovo had received support during the project’s three-year implementation, while more than 600 officials had been trained on property rights issues.
The event also featured the documentary “Make It Yours. Register Your Property,” which presented the project’s objectives, activities, beneficiaries, and results.
